Halkidiki is a peninsula and regional unit of Greece, part of the Region of Central Macedonia in Northern Greece. The capital of Halkidiki is the Polygyros. Its total area is 2,918 km2 and it is situated not far away from Thessaloniki, the second largest city in Greece.
Halkidiki may surprise one with its mixture of traditional villages, nature, beaches, shopping opportunities and night life. There are several Greek villages (such as Afytos, Parthenonas, Arnaia and Ouranoupoli) which may travel you to Greek traditions and make you feel the true Greek atmosphere. The beaches in Halkidiki are really incomparable. Here you can find some of the best beaches in Greece, which are some of the top beaches in the world. Characterized by fine white sand, and crystal clear turquoise waters, any beach on the peninsula will be a magical experience (Trani Ammouda beach, Kalamitsi, Vourvourou are few of them).
Halkidiki may also surprise you with its shopping opportunities. The larger centres like Nea Moudania, Neos Marmaras, Nikiti and Sarti have shopping streets or districts where you can find all kinds of good buys on clothing, beachwear, jewellery, and souvenirs. Halkidiki is for nature lovers, it is for history lovers and of course for gourmets.
And the last but not the least, Halkidiki is a very romantic place for those who are in love and ideal place for families.
